When you are surrounded by so many triggers, it can be hard to keep yourself on the right track. If you are a recovering alcoholic, then you may feel like every television advert and everyone on your social media is bombarding you with temptation. This is understandable, but the best thing that you can do is stay positive. You need to try and make sure that you focus on the future that you are creating for yourself, and you also need to try and distance yourself from your triggers if possible. Hold Yourself Accountable
You are accountable for your own actions. If you relapse or make the decision to go out knowing that you may be triggered, then you are accountable for that. Your friends may try and encourage you to go out or you may feel as though your actions are out of your control, but this is not the case at all. You are more powerful than your addiction, and your recovery so far is solid proof of that.
Improve Your Diet
Cooking is a fantastic way for you to put the focus on something else during your recovery. Cooking gives you the chance to release dopamine by crafting fantastic meals, and the more you cook, the better you’ll get too. Improving your diet will also greatly improve your physical and mental health, so make sure that you focus on this as much as you can if you want to stay focused and positive.
Learn a New Hobby
Have you always wanted to learn how to paint? Maybe you just want to try your hand at playing the guitar. Either way, there has never been a better time for you to try and take that next step. Learning a hobby will require focus and attention, and if you have time on your hands, it can be a very positive coping mechanism.
Start a Journal
Another thing that you can do is try and start a journal. You can then keep track of the thoughts that are going through your mind, and you can organize any feelings of stress or anxiety. Keeping a journal can also be the key to your recovery, as you can look back on your bad days and be reminded of how you stayed strong.
